People tell me that I should blog more. I use the plural of the word rather liberally, but the general consensus of the on-line community and one particularly persistent voice in my ear agree that a regular blog serves to drive traffic. How perfect that MJ Labeff welcomes us to Mind Games by playing a little mind game of her own. I'll give nothing away here, but I will say that I was hooked within the first few lines. But then came the usual worry. After such a great opening, there would have to be a let down. Surely, the author would never be able to maintain that level of intrigue throughout the book. I knew that JC Brennan had talent, but I didn't know that she also apparently has guts to spare. After all, when she decided to tackle the vampire mythos, she didn't just write a book about a vampire, she wrote about the vampire, Vlad Tepes, and it requires considerable bravery to take on such an iconic character. Such a tale could have easily come crashing down in a miasma of swirling capes and bat-transformations and clichéed Bela Lugosi'isms, but Ms Brennan rose above such banality.
